Classification of Stained Embryonic Images of Drosophila

چکیده
Gene expression images are of great interest to the biology community, whose databases are growing by leaps and bounds. Indexing and retrieval of these images become extremely necessary as the size of the databases increase. We consider one such problem here – given an embryonic image stained for gene expression, can we classify them into stages corresponding to the developmental morphology of Drosophila? For this purpose, several preprocessing steps – rotation correction, classification into dorsal and lateral views, and alignment of anterior and posterior ends were performed. Finally the images were classified into morphologically similar groups (in terms of embryo development). Different shape based features were extracted and used for classification. Details of the proposed approach and the results of using this approach on a pilot dataset are presented in this paper.

We present a methodology for the automatic identification and delineation of germ-layer components in H&E stained images of teratomas derived from human and nonhuman primate embryonic stem cells. A knowledge and understanding of the biology of these cells may lead to advances in tissue regeneration and repair, the treatment of genetic and developmental syndromes, and drug testing and discovery....
متن کاملIntegrin Linked Kinase (X-ILK) Function during Embryonic Development and within Adult Tissues of Xenopus laevis
Integrin linked kinase (ILK) is a serine/threonine protein kinase implicated in the phosphatidylinositol 3’kinase (PI3’K) pathway. Integrin linked kinase has been investigated in different organisms such as mammalian systems (human, mice, rat), insects (Drosophila) and nematodes (Cenorhabditis elegans), however to date little data regarding ILK research on amphibians has been reported. In...
متن کاملAutomatic Classification of Embryonic Fruit Fly Gene Expression Patterns
Carefully studied in-situ hybridization Gene expression patterns (GEP) can provide a first glance at possible relationships among genes. Automatic comparative analysis tools are an indispensable requirement to manage the constantly growing amount of such GEP images. We present here an automated processing pipeline for Segmenting, Classification, and Clustering large-scale sets of Drosophila mel...
متن کاملAutomated classification of pulmonary nodules through a retrospective analysis of conventional CT and two-phase PET images in patients undergoing biopsy
Objective(s): Positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) examination is commonly used for the evaluation of pulmonary nodules since it provides both anatomical and functional information. However, given the dependence of this evaluation on physician’s subjective judgment, the results could be variable. The purpose of this study was to develop an automated scheme for the classific...
متن کاملAutomatic classification of Non-alcoholic fatty liver using texture features from ultrasound images
Background: Accurate and early detection of non-alcoholic fatty liver, which is a major cause of chronic diseases is very important and is vital to prevent the complications associated with this disease. Ultrasound of the liver is the most common and widely performed method of diagnosing fatty liver. However, due to the low quality of ultrasound images, the need for an automatic and intelligent...
